Ben, I'm Thai. IMHO, Thai people generally don't use chopsticks except for eating noodles(including padthai(50/50)). They use spoon and fork.

Speaking about Thaifood in the States, I don't know why most of the restuarant has an idea of Thai food = food with peanut sauce which is completely wrong. There is only one kind of Thai food that serves with peanut sauce. It's called sate'. It's either chicken or pork marinated with coconut milk and ka-min(a spice). It serves with peanut sauce and cucumber+red onion in vinegar.

Unfortunately Thaifoon, like P.F. Chang's, seems to have grown beyond 1 store and somehow become national (or coastal). I just moved here to Irvine, CA, and ate at a Thaifoon much to my disappointment: I should have read your review first!

Lessons learned: anywhere that serves asian food but does not have chopsticks on your table by default is suspect.
