New Green Bo

Before I made my trip to NY I posted a request for “must eat” grub joints here. Last night I went to New Green Bo ( recommended by Vishal Goklani, thank you, thank you, thank you! ). It is in Chinatown but not on any of the main streets there, not that I would know for sure.

Chinatown Sign

The Scene
It has medium sized round tables shared by multiple customers and a few smaller 2 person tables. The decor in the restaurant are the endless accolades they have received through the years. It appears to be a local favorite and critically acclaimed. We sat down in a table with four other guys who were huge fans of the restaurant and quickly recommended the “soup dumplings” which are mentioned in almost every review I read.

The Food
The dish that makes it or brakes it for me at a Chinese restaurant is the Kung Pao Chicken. If they get this one right, they are OK in my book. Green Bo doesn’t have this in the menu, but they do have Cashew Nuts Chicken which is almost identical. Our table neighbors were kind enough to let us try this dish since our order got lost in translation. Did I mention that “local favorite” usually means food is great but good service is not included? Regardless, it seems that the dumplings are the required dish for the Green Bo experience and with good reason, they are quite remarkable.

Conclusion
Local favorite Chinese restaurant that rocks in food, service not included ;-)

You crack me up because I do the same thing with restaurants. I have one item I typically get among every kind of restaurant. That way I can compare it to the others places.

    I enjoy your restaurant reviews.
