Site Update

Posted on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2005 at 12:39 am under Personal, Web.

Over the past few nights I’ve spent some time doing some cosmetic and functional site updates. I revised the CSS (from the original Kubrik theme) to break it into an organization I am more comfortable working with. I never liked how it’s split into Typography, Structure, Lists etc. I rather have the code divided by sections like header, footer, posts etc. I added the menu on top which is powered by the standard wordpress pages. I’ve added some new plugins like Super Archives to power my archives section and removed them from my sidebar. I also added some more info to the About section like my bio and a list of the plugins the site is currently using.

Site Update

I still have to iron out some CSS kinks on Windows IE ( of course ) and give some love to that sidebar. So if you are on WIndows IE and you notice there are some parts of the site that look kinda funky, my apologies. On the other hand, this will be a good time for you to browse happy.

update - I added Wuhan Goodies Comment Bubbles to display the current number of comments in a post ala Apple Mail. I also hacked Customizable Post Listings to show the gravatars and the most recent comment in the sidebar, something I’m still undecided about because it feels too lengthy and crowded. For those of you reading through RSS, come to the other side of the homogeneous web and take a look at it in your browser.Your feed back is welcomed.

I like the new polished look. I only have a couple of things to say:
    1) The font in the comment form is really small: I have a pretty good sight, but I find it difficult to read what I’m writing
    2) People who don’t usually read blogs, are kind of disoriented if you put the link to the comments next to the title as a plain number. I say this, because I adopted that solution on a couple of websites I designed, and some of the readers emailed to ask how to leave comments (but this might not be your case)

Other than that, love it! :D

to Sascha: I just have a “Bookmark Folder” inside the “Bookmark Bar” w/ a-lot of blogs I read every morning; and on this “Bookmark Folder” I turned the “Auto-Click” function on … one click : and they open tab by tab in one window — i only have to cmd-w to close the tab I already had read. :)

And how are you doing these flags, next to a commenters name? Very nice.

Yeah, how do you do the cool flags, and what does a guy have to do to get a cuban flag next to his name? BTW, Happy Birthday, Melvin.

sorry, the flags are determined by the country you post from, not by your nationality. thanks for the birthday wishes.

I’m setting up a wordpress site and including a pages menu similar to yours. I can’t figure out a nice tidy way to get the blog included in this page listing as you have. I can manually type an extra list item following the function wp_list_pages to get it there but preferably would like it to be called up with the function wp_list_pages so that it would inherit all the wp classes etc eg current_page_item. How did you go about including your Blog in your Page listing menu ?
