iPod nano - I sooo want one!

Apple just announced the iPod nano and the iTunes Mobile Phone (carried by Cingular) in an Apple Media Event in San Francisco. The phone does not look anything special and I think Motorola is missing the point by releasing such an ordinary device and not capitalizing on the whole iPod style phenomenon. But, the nice surprise of this Media Event was not the phone, it was the unexpected iPod nano. Think of a Shuffle with a color screen, click wheel and bigger hard drive. The nano is replacing the Mini which leaves us all hoping the regular iPod will eventually take the shape of the Mini once those tiny drives get higher capacity.

Is it just me, or is that about as small as you might want it? Much smaller, and you couldn’t fit full controls and a screen. Much thinner, and I’d be worried about it snapping in two. A bigger disk would be nice, but 4GB is impressive for the size.

I called Steve and told him I thought he should get me one since I don’t have my own iPod…and I already have a Cingular phone. His answer…we’ll see. ;)

dude! i bought Marcia a 4gb green ipod mini, the day before this sucker came out. one day! i personally would have sacrificed that extra 2 gigs just to have one in my hands. but in true apple fashion, you’ll notice that the $199 nano has half the hard drive space as the $199 mini. I guess it’s nice to have the extra hard drive space, but man is the nano cool lookin’.

I am officially insane. I have a 3g 20gb, a 1gb Shuffle, my wife has a pink 4gb mini, my son had a silver 4gb mini and my daughter has a blue 4gb mini. Now this. They HAD to go and do it to me again! Ahhrrrggg! There is no way I can justify getting a Nano but… I WANT ONE SO BAD TOO!

i really want one of these
i like the black the best im just worried that it would snap in my pocket if i leaned to far forward to tie my shoelace or something
but thats just me being paranoid
i cant see people wanting the ipod mini or shuffle now
no wonder there so eager to give them away with walkers crisps?

Yeah, the nano is just plain sweet. I’ve got the 60 gig version right now for music, external storage, and a bootable drive for my powerbook and iMac, but the Nano is just plain indestructible. The site is looking nice. I’m in the middle of giving mine an overhaul, and I also went with the Kubrick template, the default for Wordpress. I’m still on Movable Type, tho. I’ve basically started using it as a full blown content management system. It’s not bad for me for the moment.
