Wired Magazine Comparison

I’m not saying I got the skills to stand behind the Mac Genius Bar, although to some I do, but I have let my Mac magazines expire. In fact, I have let all magazines expire except Wired. So when I do get my one and only subscription in the mail, the extra wide Wired, it’s a very special moment because I know I will spend my next month carefully reading and dissecting every bit of info in that issue. But this morning when I put my new Wired on top of last month’s I realized the new issue is skinnier. The old size said to me, hey I am wider cause I got so much interesting stuff I don’t fit on a regular size page. What’s next, perfume ad inserts and a celebrity gossip section? Let Wired know what you think of it’s new size.

    Not only is the current issue skinnier but lately they’ve taken that really great matte finish off of the cover. I absolutely loved the look and feel that gave the magazine, speaking in a very similar way about how hip/cool the magazine was that it didn’t need a super glossy cover.

    Oh yeah, I’ve also let all my mac magazine subs languish as well, as blogs like TUAW are filling that void for me.

    thanks for the heads up as I didn’t notice the skinnier size.

    “Dear Editor(s):

    Your magazine is an icon.

    Squares, squares, squares.

    To see the proportions get less square is heartbreaking.

    Sincerely,
    A Newsstand Junky”

    Sadly, I also let my Fast Company subscription go, too. I guess that’s because I daily hit Seth Grodin’s blog.

    Isn’t it weird? I got mine last week and was flipping through it and thought: “Something’s not right.” Sure enough, after a comparison, it is slightly teenier. I guess it saves a few trees/bucks. All mags seem to be going that way. Just be glad it’s not purse-sized “Teen Vogue”.
