Bootcamp

Joy of TechI know this is going to be all over the mac news sites but it is just too big not to mention it. Apple has released a beta of a new app called Boot Camp that allows a user to run Windows natively on the mac. This is with Apple’s blessing of course. Boot Camp partitions your drive and installs all drivers necessary to run Windows, but you need your own copy of course. My friend Chad is hoping they offer the reverse as well so that he can run Mac OS X on his Thinkpad but I think we got to draw the line somewhere right?

They better draw the line right there, cause people can pirate software, but can’t do it with hardware. If Apple starts selling a OS X version that works on any x86 machine, they’ll be killing all of their computer hardware.
But I’m really glad they’re adding Windows support to the new Intel Macs, shareholders must be laughing for not reason right now.

i can’t decide if i’m stunned, horrified or disappointed. maybe even thrilled.. possibley ‘stoked’ if people still say that. i like how the ‘word to the wise’ on the boot camp page refers to windows xp and .. um.. the next windows, whatever that’s called.. as being technology from last century.

I’ve got mixed feelings on this … I mean it’s kind of like dropping a Ford Pinto engine into a BMW body. Aside from gamers who need to feed their PC gaming thirsts … I’m left with one question … WHY DO IT?

This is just great, I´m a programmer and I have a PowerPc Mac, Now I can tst my apps in my mac for Mac OS X, Windows and Linux. It also allows Apple to start a direct competition with Microsoft, The idea is the following: buy a Mac, install Windows, try Mac OS X, uninstall Windows. :)

this might push me over the edge to upgrade to the intel version – one machine for cross platform testing would really be slick

virtual pc is not cutting it – windows xp chugs along at an unbearable pace, even on a g5 dual 2.0
