The finder is Carbon based, and doesn't use any standard UI elements so its impossible to write a plugin to accomplish this. Apple is the only person who can accomplish this.... SkEdit has a little work to do as tabs only work if you are in site mode. Open five documents from the desktop and you get no tabs. A tabbed finder would be awesome too!! Tabs rock!
