100-Lap

One Laptop per Child has allegedly declined offers from Apple and Microsoft in favor of running open source software on their laptops. However, judging from a photo of one of the $100 laptops, the OS has strong similarities to Mac OS X. I personally don’t think it’s OS X. The icon sizes don’t have the uniformity of the Mac, but it sure looks similar from a distance. Another interesting thing happening is the possibility of selling these machines in the consumer market. hum….

The MacBook - and Apple’s new portable strategy (17)

Macbooks

So here they are. The iBooks get the Intel treatment along with a slick new design that comes in black and white flavors. For an Apple geek, days like this, when Apple releases new products, is like like a holiday. It usually means I spend countless hours dissecting specs, reading commentaries online and discussing it with friends to no end. But since I am busy with some projects at hand, today I am doing a concise version of it.

Shuttle Preview (3)

Suttle

Let’s be frank here, WordPress rocks, no doubt, but since it’s early beginning, the interface design has lagged behind it’s technical powers. This is why since December of 2004, Khaled, Michael Heilemann, Joen Asmussen, Chris J Davis, Joshua Sigar and later Bryan Veloso started Shuttle, a collaborative effort to bring design beauty to the WordPress admin interface. Well, it’s been almost a year and a half and the Shuttle team finally release their final mockups to the public.

I certainly welcome any improvements to the WordPress admin interface, and I do hold the Shuttle team in the highest regard, they are after all the rock stars of blogging, but these mockups are a bit disappointing. There are plugins that look way slicker than Shuttle. I was hoping Shuttle would bring an Apple sensitivity to design and interface to the WordPress admin but I guess this was not the case. Expectations can kill ya.

Marcha Historica.

Surreal. Open lanes in LA. This was about 6:30 pm near downtown Los Angeles on Monday, May 1, 2006. Wilshire Blvd The March Searching for a hope and a future. Human struggles Dante and I Lilia and Anika DSCN8808.JPG 6:30pm and still going

We were part of history today. We went as a family to support our people here in Los Angeles. Today there was a march and a boycott in every hispanic state in the US. Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and Miami unified in a MASSIVE show of unity. A reported 400,000 people in LA alone, although it seemed more than that from there.

No Reboot Yet (3)

Posted May 1st, 2006 in Personal

Last week I got to do many hacks to WordPress. Wrote a plugin for a client that allows you to have custom content on the sidebar per post. Got rid of most of my comment spam, hacked my RSS feed to show me unsubscribed comments and reluctantly password protected a WordPress site. In other words, I’ve been busy. I had hoped to redesign for today’s CSS Reboot but I haven’t been able to even start on the new design yet.So for those of you waiting, you are just going to wait a little longer because I want to do something special here. I don’t want to just modify the most excellent Kubrick theme, I want to start from scratch and rethink everything.
