We’re back from our last minute trip to France. We spent 9 days total, 4 in Paris and 5 in Bordeaux in the south part of France. We went to Bordeaux to visit our friend Luis to celebrate his 40th birthday. There we joined our friends from LA, Vincent and Cecilia who also went there to visit him. Cecilia is Luis’ half sister.

It is day three in our trip to France and today we’ve had a roller-coaster ride with very low lows and very high highs. On the highs, we went to the highest point of Paris for a sensational view of the city. On the lows, I misplaced Lilia and the video camera. I found Lilia, but not the camera.

After a rough night adjusting ( wide awake at 5am, then slept til 3pm) to our new time here in Paris we ventured out to the Musée d’Orsay. Due to our late start, we skimmed through this museum in a couple of hours but we got to see a good portion of it. This museum hosts impressionists like Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas and Van Gogh. I was overwhelmed from the amount of work hosted here, I can’t imagine how I will feel when visiting the Louvre. The following are the pictures we took at the Museum. After that we went to the Eifflel Tower, a monument that is much more impressive in person than in pictures. But our battery had run out by then. I know, the gods of gadgetry are not smiling on me on this trip.

We’re finally in Paris. And after much debating the PowerBook came with us too. Here I am trying to find our Hotel in the Map. We ended up picking La Manufacture, a little hotel in a very central area surrounded by lots of cafés and bistros and right next to a subway stop.

Tomorrow noon we’re off to Paris! Lilia is persuading me to leave back my laptop to fully enjoy the trip and surrender myself to the word V A C A T I O N. Hum…. Decisions, decisions. It seems like such a strange concept to depart from such a personal item to me. I am considering it, but fighting it.
On the subject of Paris though, if any of you guys have any killer spots to eat or visit please let me know because it is our first time there. Also, this is a last minute trip. In fact, it is so last minute that the evening before the trip I’m still trying to find a hotel. It’s got to be something special. It’s got to be unique. It’s got to be affordable. And did I mention we leave tomorrow?
If you live in the area, we would love a local connection in Paris. We’ll be going down to Bordeaux for a few days but most of the time we’ll spend in Paris.

After a rough start last week, my fortunes turned sweet when I received in the mail a Starbucks Barista Espresso Machine from my friends Steve and Deana Watson. They where about to sell it on eBay but instead sent it to me as gift. So I wanted to publicly say THANK YOU. YOU HAVE BLESSED ME BEYOND WORDS. I previously owned a Briel. An entry level machine that makes decent espresso but, it becomes increasingly frustrating when making multiple cups. In fact it was such a pain that I usually ended up serving everybody but me because I just couldn’t go through one more serving. However, this new Barista machine rocks. You can immediately tell the difference in the quality of the materials used. The Portafilter is rock solid with a rubber handle. The shell is stainless steal. It is a very simple to use and makes Starbucks quality lattes with perfect crema and froth. And the best part is that it can make multiple cups without throwing a hissy fit like my old one. So I am happy about my new machine, I’ve made quite a lot of cups already and it is a delight to use. THANK YOU STEVE AND DEANA!

So how easy is it to be your own Starbucks Barista? Here’s the steps a latte requires.

This is my car’s window getting replaced as it was broken by the new owner of my stolen iPod. There’s is something sad about loosing one’s iPod. It’s such a personal item. Specially for an audiophile like me. My iPod served me well though. And although I was always tempted to replace it whenever I visited the Apple Store there was a sense of faithfulness to sticking with it. Even though it was looking really big compared to all the new ones, it didn’t play video, and had a busted screen. It was my iPod with my music. So here it is to you my dear iPod, may you serve well your new master. Although I wouldn’t blame you if you decide to stop working.
If you want to help replace my stole iPod, here’s a link to contribute.

Having fun with Arnold today. If you are my friend and you got a call from Arnold today, chances are it was from me. Mea Culpa! Check out Ebaum’s World’s Sound Boards. They have 5 of Arnold and quite a few other ones too.

A few months back I was looking online for costume ideas for this year’s Halloween and I ran into a few websites of people who are building full-on Star Wars costumes and props. These are not the cheap looking costumes usually found at the Party Store. These things will make you look like you’re in Tattonie looking for some Rebel Alliance scum who stole the mighty Death Star plans. Time to clear out that garage to make room for some power tools.
